Your health. Our priority.
Two people can have the same implant and very different outcomes. What separates them is almost always the preparation and the physiotherapy.
- Rehabilitation planned before the operation, so you know what week six looks like before you agree to week one
- Laminar flow theatres, because infection is the complication that undoes a joint replacement
- Physiotherapists in the building from day one rather than an appointment weeks later
- A frank conversation about whether you need it yet, since a replacement done too early is one you may outlive

Questions, answered.
Common questions about joint replacement surgery care at Humayun Hospital.
How long does a knee replacement last?
Most modern implants last well beyond fifteen years. How long yours lasts depends on your weight, activity and age at surgery, which is part of why timing matters.
When will I walk again?
You will stand and take steps with a walker within a day or two of surgery. Walking indoors without support usually comes within a few weeks, and stairs shortly after.
Can both knees be done together?
Sometimes. It means one anaesthetic and one recovery, but it is more demanding. Whether it suits you depends on your heart, lungs and general fitness, and is decided after assessment.
What is the biggest risk?
Infection. It is uncommon, but it is the complication that can cost the implant, which is why theatre standards, antibiotics and wound care are treated so seriously.
