Hernia & Abdominal Wall Reconstruction
Repair of inguinal, umbilical, incisional and complex abdominal wall hernias.
Repair of inguinal, umbilical, incisional and complex abdominal wall hernias.
Your health. Our priority.
Hernia surgery is judged years later, on whether it came back. That is decided by the technique and the mesh, not the speed.
- The approach chosen for the hernia rather than the surgeon's habit, open or laparoscopic
- Mesh selected for the site and the patient, since recurrence is the outcome that matters
- Recurrent and complex abdominal wall hernias taken on rather than referred away
- Emergency cover, because an obstructed hernia cannot wait for a list

Questions, answered.
Common questions about hernia & abdominal wall reconstruction care at Humayun Hospital.
Can a hernia be treated without surgery?
No. Belts and trusses hold it in but do not repair the gap, and the hernia continues to enlarge. Surgery is the only repair.
What happens if I leave it?
Most enlarge slowly and become harder to repair. The risk that matters is obstruction, where the contents get trapped. That is an emergency and a far bigger operation.
How long before I can lift things again?
Light activity within days. Heavy lifting waits four to six weeks so the repair can heal. Your surgeon will be specific to the type of repair.
Will the mesh cause problems?
Modern meshes are well tolerated and dramatically reduce recurrence compared with stitching alone. Complications are uncommon and are discussed with you before surgery.
