Your health. Our priority.
A good surgical department is measured as much by the operations it talks you out of as the ones it performs.
- A clear explanation of what the operation will fix and what it will not, before you consent
- Laparoscopic surgery as the standard for the common procedures
- Emergency theatre cover at any hour, so appendicitis at night is treated at night
- Second opinions given properly, including when the answer is that the first one was right

Questions, answered.
Common questions about general surgery care at Humayun Hospital.
Do I need surgery for a lump?
Not always. Many lumps are harmless and can be watched. What matters is establishing what it is first, usually with an ultrasound and sometimes a needle biopsy.
Is appendicitis always an emergency?
It needs same-day assessment. Left alone, an inflamed appendix can perforate, which turns a straightforward operation into a serious one. Not every abdominal pain is appendicitis, which is why examination and imaging come first.
How soon can I go back to work after keyhole surgery?
About a week for desk work after a routine laparoscopic procedure. Physical work needs three to four weeks.
Can I get a second opinion?
Yes, and you should if you are unsure. Bring your reports and scans. We will tell you honestly if we agree with the plan you already have.
